The Armorer is responsible for armory operations.  The Armorer ensures armory operations are conducted in compliance with all federal, state, and local weapons requirements.  The Armorer maintains, tests and evaluates protective force weapons as required and ensures that work is executed in a safe and sound manner following all Department of Energy, National Nuclear Security Administration, Los Alamos National Laboratory and Northern New Mexico Integrated Security (N2MIS) polices, procedures and requirements.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for the accountability of weapons and equipment in accordance with all DOE, National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA), Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) and N2MIS policies, procedures and requirements
  • Accountable for live and simulated weapons, equipment and munitions (i.e., ammunition, blanks, smoke and flash-bang grenades, etc.)
  • Responsible for maintenance of protective force weapons in compliance with law, regulations, directives and manufacturers’ specifications
  • Maintain weapons parts in compliance with N2MIS procedures for control and accountability of weapons parts. Assist in the review and update of procedures annually or as procedures changes. 
  • Maintain Armorer certifications through successful completion of required training courses.
  • Must be willing to obtain and maintain industry standard certifications and skills as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required Education and Experience:

  • Work is performed onsite. Position is not remote.
  • Three (3) years of specialized experience in a Department of Energy (DOE) security operation, or a comparable military, security or law enforcement operation, supporting the functional duties of armory management operations.
  • Two (2) years of experience in a Logistical position supporting a military, security or law enforcement operation to include supporting evidence of weapon maintenance, repair and recordkeeping.
  • Currently have, or be able to obtain and maintain, a DOE Q level security clearance. Obtaining this clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances.
  • Currently have, or be able to obtain and maintain, Human Reliability Program (HRP) certification.
  • Current in, and able to maintain, DOE National Training Center (NTC) Armorer courses of instruction.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks while maintaining strict attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Adobe PDF software effectively.
  • Must demonstrate good verbal and written communication skills and the ability to function as an effective team member while interfacing with company employees, management, and Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) oversight.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid New Mexico driver’s license.
  • Possess a Milkor Factory Certification

 Desired Education and Experience (Considered a Plus):

  • Gunsmith Certification
  • Factory Firearms Certifications
  • Associates degree in an appropriate discipline from accredited institution, college/university or equivalent combination of academic/military law enforcement training and experience

WORKING CONDITIONS

Work is typically based inside the armory and is subject to frequent interruptions. 

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Physical demands are considered medium with lifting requirements up to 40 pounds at times. Regularly sets up, adjusts, assembles, controls, tests, and operates weapons and munitions requiring close visual acuity.  Typically bends, stoops, and crouches on a regular basis to perform weapons maintenance.  Work environment may be stressful with multiple assignments and deadlines to be met.
